This note summarizes an official AIMA operational update. Confirm the portal's current scope and instructions before submitting a request.
What changed
From 1 July 2026, AIMA's Renewal Portal accepts requests for permanent residence certificates from EU nationals and permanent residence cards from third-country family members of EU nationals.
The online process covers the request, supporting-document submission, and payment of the applicable fees. If biometric data must be collected in person, AIMA will arrange an appointment after reviewing the online submission.
What happens to earlier requests
AIMA states that requests submitted through its Contact Form by 30 June 2026 remain valid. Existing appointments also remain in place according to the notification already issued.
The new portal route therefore changes the channel for new submissions without automatically cancelling a request or appointment already in progress.
Why it matters
Centralizing these requests can make the process more predictable, but applicants still need to identify the correct document and provide a complete file. The portal does not remove substantive eligibility or evidence requirements.
Before starting, confirm which permanent residence document applies, prepare the required supporting records, and check whether AIMA later requests an in-person biometric appointment.
